Cold Blow Lane

A new musical written by Annette Brook and composed by Rob Howat

Directed by Theo Cowan

Lemme take you back to 1986. Remember Top Gun, Thatcher… It’s World Cup Year in Mexico: Maradona’s hand of god; Lineker’s Golden Boot. At home: regular riots in the terraces; English teams banned from playing in Europe. Heady days…
Set in New Cross, south London, Cold Blow Lane is a new musical imagining the affiliation of two legendary football clubs: Millwall and the Lionesses. One seeking a better image the other the recognition it deserves.

Annette Brook is a playwright from south London. She is an alumni of the Royal Court Young Writers’ Programme and was a Jerwood/Arvon mentee 2015-16. Her plays include The Marriage of Lady Mede (Ledbury Poetry Festival and Shoreditch Town Hall, 2017) part of the five-hour retelling of the medieval poem Piers Plowman; Gala Mae, produced by Matchstick Theatre and performed at the launch of Bare Lit 2018 (The Albany) and longlisted for the 2016 Alfred Fagon Award; Epiphany (Horse & Stables, 2017); The other half (The Feminist Library, 2015) and Little Baby Nothing (Theatre503, 2013).

Cold Blow Lane is a new musical about women and football and life in south east London.
